DNB study finds vendors wary of costs, wanting “equal or lower” fees compared with existing options

Digital euro

Dutch merchants may be warming to the idea of a European central bank digital currency, according to The Netherlands Bank (DNB).

On August 28, DNB published results from a survey of 1,023 merchants, 42% of whom “identified potential opportunities” in the digital euro but said their support was highly contingent on transaction fees not being higher than those of Mastercard and Visa. Merchants were also keen to receive assurances about the offline functionality of a CBDC.
