Dabei handelt es sich allerdings nur um CO2-Emissionen, die ein Unternehmen im Betrieb verursacht (Scope 1) hat, etwa durch die Ölheizung oder die Fahrzeugflotte. Berücksichtigt man zusätzlich die Treibhausgasemissionen der Stromproduktion (Scope 2) und entlang der Wertschöpfungskette, von der Rohstoffgewinnung bis zur Entsorgung (Scope 3), liegen die Emissionen rund fünfmal höher.
